Shahin Farshchi

Lux Capital

Inspired by Knight Rider and Star Trek, Shahin grew up with a passion to endow superpowers to humanity through feats of engineering. He learned BASIC on an IBM PC XT clone he built at his aunt’s computer store and used to dial into Bulletin Board Systems when he was in the 4th grade. He learned about engines by taking apart an Alfa Romeo at his Uncle’s repair shop a few years later. Shahin has had the privilege of partnering with amazing founding teams for over two decades. After working for several software startups, he built his first startup in 2004 building upon his PhD research designing chips, systems, and software to capture and interpret brain signals. He later had the pleasure of meeting Lux’s founding team, who invited him to partner with them in 2006, where he has cofounded and led Lux’s investments into companies that have gone on to become publicly traded (e.g., NYSE:AEVA and NYSE:PL), and acquired by the likes of Intel (Nervana), Amazon (Zoox), Silicon Laboratories (Silicon Clocks), and Lattice Semiconductor (SiBeam).

Tom

Thomas Higginbotham

Kestrel Intelligence

Just a technology optimist obsessed with defending freedom and democracy at home and abroad, today and for future generations.

I grew up with an outsized interest in statistics (see my Stanford GSB LOWKeynote) that led me to an Econometrics degree at the University of Colorado.

I joined the US Air Force as an officer, the six in past three generations in my family, serving a mission I will continue to serve for the rest of my life. While flying, I became an expert on all things related to the electromagnetic spectrum including electronic warfare, tactical datalinks, GPS jamming, and all-domain operations.

With the support of my alma mater, Villanova University, I left active duty for Stanford GSB, the only school I applied to. I was blessed with the opportunity to support Jennifer Aaker and Fei Fei Li as a research assistant, publishing seven case studies on human-centered AI.

I landed at Alphabet’s X, the Moonshot Factory out of Stanford, working on the product vision for a early pipeline project related to multi-modal computing and artificial intelligence. After our project delivered a ceremonious “pause mortem”, I joined C3 AI.

C3 AI has taught me about value-driven applications of emerging technology, namely enterprise artificial intelligence. I’ve had the opportunity to lead a portfolio of technical teams and programs across the Department of Defense and Intelligence Community.

I’m a photographer specializing in astrophotography, timelapse, and aerial photography.
